The Burning of the Reichstag
After the horrendous examples of fascism in Europe, the world changed their view of fascism. The ideology of a one man leader demanding change had been the general conception by the world. The idea of a man increasing nationalism and taking on the countries interests was the view of fascism. It had not had the dictator connotation it obtained today. Now Fascism is viewed as destruction to democracy. To the left is a picture of the burning of the Reichstag. The Reichstag was Germany's parliament building. Hitler burned it down and then blamed it on his political enemies. This is just one example how fascism is viewed as destuction of democracy. Mussolini, Franco, and Hitler are all viewed as evil dictators who suppressed democracy. Ms. Glasserman explained in the interview, located under the "Home" link, that people today think of the murder of six million Jews and others when the topic of fascism comes up. She also explains that people think of fascism's aspect of racial superiority. These are both miserable connotations to have.
